(Sexual assault trigger warning)

I sat on the porch, watching Tracey’s house, biting on my thumbnail. I needed to go over there and get my luggage. I had more than just luggage there. My shoes were there and my original journal too. Royce bought the one I had been writing in lately, but I really did need my old one. I cared about that more than I cared about the clothes and stuff. I had been sitting here, trying to work up the courage to go over there since Kayden fell asleep watching TV an hour ago. I saw Tracey leave a couple of hours ago, from the window and felt like now would be a perfect opportunity to sneak in to get my shit. I mean, I wouldn’t be able to sneak much because there was no sneaking around Tracey’s house. I’d have to run into one of them. As long as it wasn’t Tracey, I really didn’t give a damn. Me being at Royce wasn’t a secret anymore neither, although it really never was a secret to begin with. I just knew they knew I was here.

Me and Mike made eye contact yesterday. He was standing on the porch. When we made eye contact, he nodded at me. It was a little awkward, but I nodded back. He never really spoke to me before. Donny was standing next to him and he didn’t nod. Niya had been walking up and down the block with her hood rat friends, talking shit, rolling her eyes at me and stuff. After seeing them, I thought about going back to the backyard but it was way too many bugs back there. Plus, why hide anyway? I didn’t care that they knew I was here, to be honest.

“You still standing there ain’t you? If you want me to come over there, I will,” Cash said on the other end of the phone.

I sucked my teeth. “Shut up. I’m about to go over there now.”

“Mmhmm. Just let me know. If you want me to go grab it, I will, friend.”

Cashmere, who went by Cash, and I had grown extremely close. It took me a minute to warm up to her, since she had a big ass personality and I was more reserved and leerier of people. She basically made me come out of my shell though. She kept telling jokes and introducing me to people as Royce’s shy ass girlfriend. I wasn’t shy though. I’ve never been shy. I just… dealing with the shit I dealt with since moving to Detroit made me slow to trust people. It took me a few weeks, but eventually, I was telling Cash my life story damn near. I couldn’t help but to get close to her.

Every time I was with Royce, she was somewhere with E, with us. After a while, we just hung out together, instead of just running into each other whenever the guys were together. It was refreshing as hell too. I had grown very tired of just having Royce as the only person I socialized with.
